So, you’re having one of those days.
Your confidence is shot, you’re feeling overwhelmed, nervous, fearful or all of the above.
You might be about to do something that freaks you out or you’re simply feeling a bit low. And let’s be real, when that happens, you’d rather get into bed, switch on Netflix and tune out the world.
Sometimes we just get in our own way. We literally block ourselves from being, doing and having everything that we dream of.
If you’re having one of those days, it’s important to get grounded and present and to get out of your head and into your heart space. This is where you find access to your inner mentor (she’s there to guide you and high five you on your merry way to confidence town.)
I have a really quick 5 minute ritual that I use every time I’m feeling nervous or low in confidence. Try it for yourself and if it feels good, you can do it every single day to slowly build up that confidence muscle, move out of your fear zone and into your sweet, soulful life.
Because sweetness, you are ready for the next step.
Minute 1
Write down exactly what you’re feeling scared of, emotional about or worried about. Start your sentence with the words “I am…” and face the fear head on. This may be scary, but trust me it’s important to understand what’s really going on so you can take the steps to move forward.
“I am worried that I’ll screw up this webinar. I’m worried that people will judge me.”
Minutes 2 – 3
After writing down the current fear or emotion, close your eyes and start to slow down your breathing. Feel the breath filling your tummy and expanding your chest as it goes in and out slowly.
Start to visualise yourself in the situation you are fearful or worried about. Imagine yourself showing up with a calm and natural confidence.
Picture what the situation looks like and allow yourself to feel in your body how free, calm and clear you are in that very moment.
Focus here and keep visualising yourself in this moment with complete calmness and confidence. What are you saying, doing, feeling and thinking?
Keep your breath steady and slow and continue to visualise until you feel a calmness float over you.
Minute 4
Open your eyes. Keep your breathing slow and deep. Now grab your pen again and write down a new “I am..” statement.
This time you’re going to turn the original fear based statement into a positive affirmation. Make sure you write it in the present tense as if you have already achieved your goal.
“I am rocking my webinar and my community are absolutely loving it. I am confident, calm and at ease.”
Minute 5
Repeat the above affirmation 3 times out loud. Make sure you adjust your posture to a confident and natural stance and feel the positive energy in your body as you say your affirmation.
This simple exercise has helped me take action during moments of fear, move out of my comfort zone and help me grow emotionally. Building up your confidence takes time and patience, but you can use this ritual anytime you feel low or worried. I also like to use it as a daily practice to start my morning off right.
